About

GE produced educational comic books from 1946-1959 to interest students in science and engineering.

The comics featured a teenager, Johnny Powers, who uses science and engineering to solve problems with the help of his big brother Ed, a GE engineer.

Ed uses their experiences to highlight the science and history of jet power, X-Ray imaging, and atomic power, just to name a few.

Over 125 million comics were given away to students and teachers. All the teachers had to do was write and request the comics. The books also in appeared in the GE employee newsletters. The comics were part of a larger educational campaign that included booklets on the importance of studying math, science, and engineering; booklets about careers at GE; and posters highlighting the latest GE inventions.

The comic books were scanned in 2013-2014 by Niskayuna High School student Humair Minhas.
